Psakim and Halacos For Purim

Alon Number:

needs to daven over again after becoming sober. Regarding Birchas Hamazon, L'chatchila he should recite Birchas Hamazon before he reaches that stage, but if he has already reached that stage of drunkenness before benching, he may B'dieved bench, and other Brachos may be recited L'chatchila.

'Shikor k'lot' (drunk like Lot) - (Where one reached  a stage that he is not aware of his actions nor does he have control over them – (רמב"ם פכ"ט ממכירה הל' יח, ובחו"מ סי' רל"ה סעי' כ"ב) he is considered a 'Shote' and is exempted from all Mitzvos, and if he davened or benched he wasn't Yotzei Ydei Chova and must go back and repeat after becoming sober (סי' קפ"ה מ"ב ס"ק ו', סי' צ"ט ס"ק י"א, רמב"ם פרק א' מנזירות הלכה י"ב, עירובין ס"ה).

Dinim of Aveilus on Purim

An Aveil is obligated to eat Se'udas Purim with meat and wine, he is permitted to eat together with others and should eat with everyone, and is also allowed to hear music by the Se'uda. If he can't do this in his own house, then he is allowed to be invited by others and eat and rejoice there.

An Aveil on one's father or mother within twelve months, is obligated to send Mishloach Manos, and should send to two or three of his friends, but he shouldn't send items that are just extras, and some say that he is only allowed to send one single Mishloach Manos.

One shouldn't send Mishloach Manos to an Aveil during the year of Aveilus on his father or mother (or within Shloshim on other relatives). If someone sends Mishloach Manos to an Aveil without knowing, the Aveil is allowed to accept it.

Various issues and uncertainties in Hilchos Purim

Is one Yotzei the Megillah when hearing from a thirteen year old boy (with no beard).

The basis of the Safek is, since a thirteen year old boy is in a stage where it is still not certain that he is a Gadol, and the rule based on Dinei Chazakkah is, that regarding Mitzvos that are Min Hatorah we do not assume he is a Gadol whereas Mitzvos that are Miderabanan we do assume that he is a Gadol. Lehalacha, for the evening reading he can read both for men and women. For the daytime reading he is only allowed to read for women and not for men.

Is a woman allowed to dress up as a man on Purim or vice versa.

The Rama (סי' תרצ"ו סעי' ח') writes that it is permitted for a woman to dress up as a man on Purim, but many Poskim forbid this unequivocally (עי' במשנ"ב שם סק"ל) and one should be stringent on this matter. If it is obvious whether the one who dressed up is a man or a woman [for example where only one piece of clothing is worn], there may be no need to voice disapproval.

Regarding children under the age of Bar/Bas Mitzvah- Mei'ikar Hadin it is permitted [for Ashkenazim], nevertheless, one should refrain from it [at least when they reach the age of Chinnuch.

Question: A girl who acts in a play by a Purim party, is she permitted to wear Tzitzis or other men's clothes for acting and playing in the spirit of Simchas Purim.

Answer:  On Purim itself – one who is lenient and dresses in a way that is obvious that she is a girl- we do not need to voice disapproval, but the proper way is not to do this, since many Poskim forbid this unequivocally.

Before Purim- even according to the opinion of the Rama that on Purim it is permitted, before Purim it is more severe and should not be done. Therefore one should use synthetic material which is not really considered clothing so as not to transgress the Issur, allowing the play to take place without any Issurim.

Immodest clothing [Pants/trousers for girls, etc.] are forbidden altogether, Mei'ikar Hadin.
